The Department of Panchakarma, Alva’s Ayurveda Medical College & Hospital, Moodbidire,
successfully conducted the Sharad Virechana programme from 22nd September to 20th
November 2025 as part of its preventive and therapeutic healthcare services. Sharad Virechana, a
classical seasonal Panchakarma procedure indicated during Sharad Ritu for the elimination of
aggravated Pitta Dosha, was undertaken with the objectives of preventing seasonal diseases,
managing Pitta-dominant clinical conditions, and promoting overall health and wellbeing.
Patients were selected after thorough clinical examination and assessment of Rogi–Roga Bala,
and the standard Panchakarma protocol was followed, including Purva Karma procedures such
as Deepana–Pachana, Snehapana, Abhyanga, and Swedana, followed by Pradhana Karma in the
form of Virechana using appropriate Virechana Yogas, and Paschat Karma comprising
Samsarjana Krama and lifestyle advice. The programme benefited a total of 25 individuals,
including 10 students, 1 staff member, and 14 outpatients, who underwent Virechana therapy for
conditions such as skin disorders, digestive complaints, acidity, constipation, obesity,
hypertension, PCOD, and thyroid disorders. The outcomes of the programme included effective
elimination of vitiated Pitta Dosha, improvement in clinical symptoms, enhanced digestion and
metabolism, better skin health, and overall wellbeing, with positive feedback from beneficiaries.
The successful conduct of the Sharad Virechana programme highlighted the importance of
seasonal Panchakarma interventions in disease prevention, health maintenance, and experiential
learning for students.
