The Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka, in association with Alva’s Education Foundation (R), Moodubidire, jointly organized the 85th All India Inter-University Athletics Championship 2025–26 under the auspices of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). The grand inauguration ceremony was held on 12 January 2026 at 4:30 p.m. at Swarajya Maidan, Moodubidire. The programme began with ceremonial proceedings including the lighting of the lamp and torch reception, symbolizing the spirit of sportsmanship and unity. The inauguration and torch receiving ceremony was conducted by Dr. U. T. Khader Fareed, Honorable Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. The Chief Guests for the occasion were Sri Dinesh Gundu Rao, Honorable Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Karnataka, and Dr. Sharanaprakash R. Patil, Honorable Minister of Medical Education & Skill Development and Pro-Chancellor of RGUHS. The programme was presided over by Dr. Bhagavan B. C., Honorable Vice-Chancellor, RGUHS, Karnataka. The flag hoisting was performed by Captain Brijesh Chowta, Honorable Member of Parliament, D.K. Lok Sabha Constituency, signifying the official opening of the championship. The ceremony was further graced by several distinguished guests including Sri Umanatha A. Kotian (MLA, Mulki-Moodubidire), Dr. Srinivas N. T., Sri H. C. Balakrishna, Sri Rizwan Arshad, Sri Puttanna, Sri Govinda Raj, Sri Mohammad Mohsin, I.A.S., Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare (Medical Education), Government of Karnataka, and Dr. B. L. Sujatha Rathod, Director of Medical Education, Government of Karnataka. The inauguration concluded with motivational addresses encouraging athletes to uphold discipline, teamwork, and excellence, thereby setting a vibrant and energetic tone for the championship ahead.
