About the Institution
Alva’s Ayurveda Medical College a premier vision of Academist Dr.M.Mohan Alva, had its neonatal existence in the year 1996. This prestigious Institution is completing its silver jubilee year in 2020-21 and stepping into the dawn of the second half of the third decade.
Hundreds of Ayurvedic graduates have evolved out of this Institution down the years, carrying the glory of the Institution far and wide. This Institution is an abode of multi-culture and traditional with a variant mix of students across the country and globe.
The students of the Institution undergo vigorous training in theoretical and practical aspects of Ayurveda. The practical needs of the students are catered by a fully-fledged 250 bedded hospital with nine OPDs. Apart from this, students are exposed to practical training in our sister concerned Hospital, Alva’s Health Centre and rural medical camps in and around Moodubidire. The Institution extended its roots into Postgraduate education in the year 2006 and advanced with a Ph.D. centre in Ayurveda in the year 2013-2014, currently functioning with 15 Post Graduate Departments & Ph.D. in 03 specialties.
The campus spreads across a magnificent landscape amidst the beauty of nature. Our dedicated aim is to foster the overall development of each and every student, which includes instilling skills and values that would enhance the quality of life.
The teaching program followed at our Institution is an integrative method to provide multi-direction exposure to our students. All the subjects are designed to be taught in a manner so that students get a better perception of health, disease and its effective treatment. Every effort is made for the teaching program to be a learner-oriented method that encourages cultivation of the values like logical thinking, clarity of expression and action, independent judgment, scientific orientation, problem-solving abilities and other necessary values.
The aim of the institution is to produce scholars having deep fundamental knowledge about Ayurveda spiced with extensive practical training to have a holistic approach by reviving and developing the prestigious ancient Traditional medicine.
About the course
Alvas Ayurveda Medical College offers a bachelor degree in Ayurveda (BAMS), 15 Post Graduate and 3 PhD courses. These are recognized by the Central Council of Indian Medicine, Ministry of AYUSH, New Delhi, GOI and affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka, Bangalore.
Facilities of the College
Research Unit:
Our Institution provide an opportunity for all types of research activities connected to PG /PhD scholars and also in collaboration with various other government and non-government funding boards. It has established an independent well equipped and functioning separate unit called as “ATMA” (Alvas Traditional Medicine Archive) Research Centre. For this purpose
Library :
The college library has a vast array of books from authors of national and international repute Medical Sciences. The library catalogue lists more than 15000 Ayurvedic and modern medical books and the latest journals which is the proud asset of the institution. The library also has broadband internet facilities with 100 computers.
Herbal Garden:
Shobha Vana, the herbal garden is a boon for all students and researchers of Ayurveda. This Herb garden is spread across 150 acres of land having 58 vanas. Herbs of different species have planted with reference to Indian literature which makes it a unique one. There are about 2000 different species of medicinal plants that have been organically cultivated and have been certified by SKAL International of the Netherlands. Many scientists, research scholars and ayurvedic students of various colleges of Karnataka and surrounding states regularly visit and get the benefits out of it.
Pharmacy:
Alva’s pharmacy situated 6 km away from the institution is manufacturing and supplying more than 250 quality Classical and Patent Ayurveda medicines to the public. Students of our institution are trained here regarding the preparation of Ayurveda medicines by the traditional methods and by implanting modern technology. Our pharmacy is the authentic raw herb supplier to many herbal product manufacturers like Himalaya etc. The pharmacy is one of GMP certified and CU certified units.
Transport:
Transport facilities are available for daily commutation between hostels, college and clinical out postings at various centers. College also provides transport facilities as per the special needs of the students whenever required for their academic and clinical activities.
Extra Curricular Activities:
Alva’s Education Foundation aims at providing education and promoting Cultural, Sports and literary activities for the overall development of its students. It is organizing every year various events including cultural fest like Alva’s Virasat, Sports and games activities.
