National Level Seminar on Applications of Vedanga in Samhita Adhyayana

Vedanga 2023- A national level seminar on applications of Vedanga in Samhita Adhyayana was organized by the PG Department of Ayurveda Samhita and Siddhantha Alva’s Ayurveda Medical college on 24/06/2023.

Vedanga word meaning being the methods of learning and understanding veda, the inauguration aptly began with a synchronized chanting of shloka related to Ayurveda which is a part of veda. The chants by the undergraduate, and post graduate students of ayurveda for 20 minutes set a positive tone to the seminar enhanced with the essence of Ayushkameeya Adhyaya, first chapter of Ashtanga Hridaya Sutra Sthana.

The programme commenced through an inauguration by lightning the lamp in front of Lord Dhanwantari and the valuable scripts of Ayurveda the Samhithas, in the holy presence of shri shri Swami Japasiddhanandaji, Head, department of Sanskrit and philosophy, school of Indian heritage, Ramakrishna mission, Vivekananda education and research institute, Belur Math, Kolkatta, West Bengal. And Shri Shri Swami Jitakamanandaji Aadhyaksha, Shri Ramakrishna math, Mangalore presided by Dr. M. Mohan Alva, Chairman, AEF Moodubidire

Dr.Sajith M, Principal, AAMC welcomed the dignitaries and the delegates to the national seminar Vedanga- 2023.

Dr. Soumya Saraswathi M, the chief organizing secretary & HOD, Dept of Ayurveda Samhita and Siddhanta introduced the theme of the national seminar, the importance of Vedanga as an instrument in understanding Ayurveda.

Mr.Vivek Alva Managing trustee Alva’s Education Foundation,Dr.Vinay Alva Managing trustee Alva’s Education Foundation, Managing Director Alva’s Health Centre Moodubidire.

Dr.Raviprasad Hegde, Dean PG Studies, HOD& Faculty of Various Departments ,UG ,PG Scholars of AAMC were also present in this gracious occasion.

The key note address by Shri Shri Swami Japasiddhanandaji highlighted the importance of prayers Sahanavavatu. Sri Sri Swami Jitakamanandji the Inaugurator, Adhyaksha shri Ramakishna Math, Mangalore elobarated the importance of Samhita Adhyayana. He also advised the necessity of Deha shuddhi and Mana shuddhi for one to be healthy and the vak shuddhi can be attained by learning Sanskrit properly.

Dr. M. Mohan Alva, chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation president of the Ceremony honoured both the speakers of the inaugural ceremony.

Mr. Sathyanarayana Bhat Associate Professor department of Ayurveda Samhita and Siddhanta presented vote of thanks in Sanskrit which ended inaugural ceremony on a blissful note.

The inaugural programme was followed by the Scientific sessions.

The first session by Swami Japasiddhanandaji on the topic ‘Relevance of Shiksha in everyday life’ where the importance of phonetics was highlighted. He stressed that miss pronounced words may lead to alteration of meaning of the Ayurveda shlokas also which may alter the core understanding of the subject.

The second session was delivered by Dr.G.N. Bhat, President, Samskrita Shodha Samsthanam, Bengaluru. Who highlighted the importance of Niruktha in Nighantus.

Third session here bestowed the significance of Paniniya Vyakarana and benefits of Maheshwarasutra and its in-depth science and significance in learning Ayurveda Shastra. The proper pronunciation of the Veda Mantra, where the Mantra Chikitsa is also an unique form of treatment mentioned in Ayurveda which can be only achieved through proper knowledge of Vedanga and Sanskrit.

Session four was delivered by Dr. Raghavendra Udupa, Professor and Head, Dept of Samhita Siddhanta, KVG Ayurveda medical college, Sullia on the topic Chandhas and its practical approach in Samhita Adhyayana with live examples.

Followed by lunch break and Oral paper presentation was conducted in 4 different venues for the presenters from various colleges.

Fifth session by Dr. Shridhara.N.Bhatta, head of department Sanskrit SDMC ujre. In Jyouthisha and Ayurveda for better life highlighted parallel approach of diagnosis and cure of diseases in Jyouthisha and Ayurveda

The sixth session was conducted by Dr. Jayashankar K, HOD Department of Sanskrit, Purnaprajna PU college Aadamaru Udupi. He gave vast information on Kalpasutra on Yagna and necessary items its procedure and their arrangements.

It was followed by panel discussion lead by Dr. Krishnamurthy M S Professor, Dept of Rasashastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana, where in the resource persons and experts clarified all the quires of the delegates.

Total 600 delegates and 82 presenters from all over India including UP, Haryana, Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nādu, all parts of Karnataka where actively and enthusiastically participated in the event to make it a great success.

The Concise report execution of Vedanga-2023 was done by Dr.Manjula K Associate professor Dept of Ayurveda Samhita and Siddhanta and Coordinator of the Scientific Paper presentations.

Prizes were distributed to the winners of the scientific paper presentation in different categories by the resource persons of the Seminar Vedanga- 2023.The Chair persons of the Scientific presentation session were also honoured with the token of gratitude by Dr.Vinay Alva, Managing trustee Alva’s Education Foundation. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Soumya Saraswathi M Organising secretary of the Seminar Vedanga- 2023.
