As part of the International Day for Biological Diversity celebration, the Department of Dravyaguna Vijnana, Alva’s Ayurveda Medical College, Moodabidire, organized a Herbal Drug Identification Session on 24th May 2025, at the botanically rich and serene campus of Shobhavana. The session aimed to promote awareness about the rich biodiversity of medicinal plants, enhance practical skills in herbal drug identification, and encourage the conservation of traditional plant knowledge among Ayurveda professionals.

A total of 60 delegates from across Karnataka, including postgraduate scholars and lecturers from various Ayurveda colleges, actively participated in the session. The participants had a unique opportunity to observe, identify, and study a wide variety of classical medicinal plants in their natural habitat. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Dr. Subrahmanya Padyana, Professor and Head of the Department of Dravyaguna Vijnana, along with other departmental faculty members and enthusiastic student volunteers

Participants were guided through live demonstrations and interactive discussions on the identification of key medicinal plants, including details about their botanical characteristics and clinical applications. This session served not only as a botanical and academic enrichment opportunity but also as a reminder of our shared responsibility in preserving biodiversity, a key pillar of Ayurveda and sustainable healthcare.
